MANUCULTURA – From project suggestions to implementation

During the MANUCULTURA exchange meetings the partners learned about new approaches and techniques applied in cultural education with apprentices. Till now the activities of KKA in AT (entitled “Programm K3 – Kulturvermittlung mit Lehrlingen”), the cultural education program of ARKEN in DK, and the projects „FilialART“ and „Abenteuer Kultur“ of ALNATURA in DE have been presented and reflected. Using suggestions gained through this process, the partners implemented so far:

► ARKEN, Ishoj / DK:

In June 2015 ARKENs head of school services implemented (and developed further) the “Programm K3”-best-practice example from the mumok (the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna) in a workshop with colleagues from Skoletjenesten, the Danish organisation/network of school services in cultural institutions. For the participants the tool experienced in Vienna provided interesting new perspectives when working with aesthetics in cultural education.

In November/December the educational department at ARKEN will collaborate in an extended project with KUU in Copenhagen – an educational initiative for young people who have met difficulties in their previous educational life. The KUU aims at preparing the youngsters for a job life during a two-year project-based educational programme. In this collaboration ARKEN will integrate the MANUCULTURA-best-practice examples as part of the inspiration. The exercise from mumok will again be used as a relevant didactic tool. The best-practice examples from Alnatura will inspire with their focus on taking into account the life situation of the apprentices involved.

► MSU, Zagreb / HR:

Electronic devices (such as tablets and „quick photo“-editing software) played a crucial role in the best-practice examples, the MSU team learned about earlier this year in ARKEN, Denmark. Having that in mind, the MSU Education Department decided to integrate such devices, and modern electronics in general, in its Twens & Teens workshops.

In October 2015, MSU visitors age 12 to 15 were able to participate in two special weekend workshops organized in collaboration with Edit-Comics, an educational platform for children supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Center:

A. Animation Workshop:

  • The participants made their own animated movies (cartoons) inspired by the installation „Double Slide“ by the artist Carsten Höller.
  • Education team: Museum Education Specialist, Curator, Animation Specialist, Illustrator
  • Materials & equipment:  LED illuminated animation drawing boards, computers, editing software

B. TV Report Workshop:

  • The participants prepared, filmed, edited and acted in their own video pieces, focusing on a single day in the MSU.
  • Education team: Museum Education Specialist, Curator, Film Specialist
  • Materials & equipment:  professional video equipment, computers, editing software

► CESIE, Palermo / IT

The artistic activities carried on by Alnatura in the best-practice example „FilialART“, enables to reflect and experience the own workplacement differently. CESIE plans to implement those activities with their European Volunteers. This gives the Volunteers the chance to experience and improve their workplace through art. CESIE foresees to work specifically in the artistic fields of painting, music, video and action-art. Using this approach they aim to share learning expectations and challenges among Volunteers. More over the artistic workshops facilitate self-reflection and group reflection in the working groups – very important for having a successful European Voluntary Service experience.
